"Threads" by Portishead
I battle my thoughts
I find, I can't explain
I've traveled so far
But somehow feel the same
I'm worn, tired of my mind
I'm worn out, thinking of why
I'm always so unsure!
I'm always so unsure!
This is one of those songs that is so fused with a particular period of my life that, every time I listen to it, I'm involuntarily plunged back into memories that I wish I could erase. It was a balm to my soul, but it's now tied to the pain it helped alleviate.
Justice for Third! I feel like this album gets short-changed, but I love it. It's heavier than Dummy. It's also angrier. It has a snarl to it. And yet it gives us the masterpiece of "The Rip," a restorative and life-affirming song that ranks as one of their best.
"The Rip" by Portishead
And as I take on myself
And the bitterness I felt
I realize that love flows
Wild, white horses
They will take me away
And the tenderness I feel
Will send the dark underneath
Will I follow?
