On this day in 2019, we lost Mark Hollis. I have described Talk Talk's Laughing Stock as a sacred album for me. It might be my favorite album of all-time. It is that precious and transcendent. Many times over the last few years—when I was caring for my mother as her health declined and when she was dying in hospice—I listened to Mark Hollis's music. His voice was with me at the darkest moments of my life. I listened to Laughing Stock after my mother died because I didn't know what else to do. Isn't it stunning how one person can change our lives? How an album can literally save us? I'm so grateful that Mark shared his gifts with this world.
