A Canterbury Tale takes you into the mystical, the elemental. Few scenes move me as deeply as Alison standing on the road to Canterbury, hearing the echoes of the pilgrims who traveled it centuries before. The land holds their souls, their dreams, their hopes. What a miracle any of us are here at all, and that we somehow find others to love and to share this life with.

Gone to Earth is such a strange and otherworldly film, drenched in tormented passion and primal desire. The colors almost made me cry. Jennifer Jones plays a woman who cannot be tamed or owned. Her soul longs for a freedom that the men in her life will not permit.

The Edge of the World (Michael Powell, 1937)

For Valentine's Day, I had a Powell and Pressburger marathon. It was just what my soul needed. I felt recharged and restored by the stories and the images.
